Funeral Tomorrow

In honor of Richard, here are a couple of Native American prayers:

Do not lead me,
For I may not always follow.
Do not follow me,
For I may not always lead.
Lets walk our paths together,
As brothers, friends forever as one.

ah tey wa chee un kink tay

"...and, again I will see You"

Do not stand at my bier and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush of
Quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my bier and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
[Native North American prayer]

Tuesday, Terrible Tuesday

So today we were going to work on dyeing yarn or wool with flower dust. However, today marks the third time I have been afflicted with what I call "Goiter Neck". Also known as salivary gland problems. Google it, it's disgusting. And painful...so before this pain medication kicks in I wanted to share something with you for today.

I subscribe to this site's newsletter; if you are a crafter you gotta see this!

Totally awesome. I'll link them to my page a bit later, can't figure out how from my trusted companion: my phone.

Hopefully I'll be able to dye wool soon. I am planning a 30 day reading challenge, so stay tuned for that. Until then, see you all later!

Monday, Monday...and Rain

In honor of the fabulous weather here in Oregon today, I'm sharing some indoor crafts to do with kids. I was going to do a gardening one today but hey, who can garden in a deluge? Not this girl! So before school was over, we collected some crayon nibs from the class which the teacher didn't need for her own nefarious purposes. We also have a plethora of our own crayon bits, so here is what we plan to do with them today:

Oh my GOODNESS those peaches last night were outta sight! You guys gotta try that recipe. Next time I think I will add marscapone to the center of each one before serving. I also changed the recipe slightly, by adding honey to the basalmic glaze. Also, those peaches and the glaze would make a delightful addition to some vanilla ice cream....here's a picture of the ones I made last night. Let me know if you try the recipe, and any changes you might make!

Tomorrow's blog is going to be about dying wool with the stamens of the Stargazer lily. See you tomorrow!

Second Day, Same As The First

Hi Everyone!

Ok, well here we are at day two on my launch into Bloggerdom. So far I've done a lot of fussing with the layout and graphics, etc. But over all I'd have to say I'm pretty pleased with how it's shaping up. I added some links to get us started on the left to some of my favorite sites where I go to get information or inspiration.

Pinterest is a place I spend a lot of time on my phone; soon I will grab some of the best stuff I've pinned and share it here, hopefully I'll have that done in the next couple of days.

I'll eventually add Facebook on here too. Groan all you want.

So let's have a hobby topic to start us off, and since it's summer, I think a good one would be food. I'm having a hard time with cooking or baking because of the heat so we've been eating a lot of fruit. Has anyone tried this recipe? I will try it tomorrow and let y'all know how it turns out!

Grilled Peaches

Barbequed Peaches Recipe

Ingredients Needed:
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 large fresh peaches with peel, halved and pitted
  • 2 1/2 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
How To:

In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the white sugar, balsamic vinegar, and pepper. Simmer until liquid has reduced by one half. It should become slightly thicker. Remove from heat, and set aside.

Preheat grill for medium-high heat.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Place peaches on the prepared grill, cut side down. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the flesh is caramelized. Turn peaches over. Brush the top sides with the balsamic glaze, and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Transfer the peach halves to individual serving dishes, and drizzle with remaining glaze. Sprinkle with crumbled blue cheese.

New Blogging Hobby

I wanted to start a blog where I can keep track of all of my various, and varied, hobbies. One of which is writing! But I intend to share all kinds of information and bits of this and that in regards to many hobbies I have enjoyed and currently enjoy. I encourage anyone to share tips and tricks so we can all learn from each other.

Writing and reading aside, I enjoy many hobbies that include crafty-ness. From scrapbooking to knitting, mosaic and pottery...I love them all. Anyone with any others should post them here so we can add to our repertoire.

Other hobbies I love include cooking and baking, photography and painting. I'll add sections for each once I get futher along. This blogging thing is my newest hobby, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Sort of like a journal where I can keep all my hobbies and share them with other people. Cool!

I use Pinterest a lot because I can post pictures of all the things I love in one location. But sometimes I'd like to add information about what I'm posting, more than just a brief description. I'll do that here, instead.

So let me get organized, and I'll be back on soon with some categories, pictures, and information. See you all later!
